Can your child name their body parts? 👤⠀ ⠀ Teaching children the correct terms for their body parts, including the correct anatomical terms for private areas, is important for their safety. In the unfortunate event that a child or youth is being sexually abused, these specific details will be helpful to the adult receiving the disclosed information. If the child knows the correct terms, it will ensure that there is a better understanding when it comes to reporting.⠀ ⠀ For more helpful information and worksheets, visit the link in our bio and click "My First Safety Book". ...

We want to say that you are a rare kind of generous, Margo Smith! 💖⠀ ⠀ It is difficult to put into words how much your generosity means to all of us.⠀ ⠀ A valued and dedicated volunteer for the Centre, who has volunteered her valuable time; has generously donated to all our events & initiatives; and has remained actively committed to the success of our Kids Golfing for Kids event since the Centre opened in September 2008. Margo is a passionate and amazing woman with extraordinary commitment and a heart of gold. ⠀ ⠀ A former teacher with over 35 years with the DSBN, Margo knew volunteering with the Centre was a perfect fit for her, as she spent a career advocating for children & youth. ⠀ ⠀ Margo joined the events committee to help with event preparation, the most memorable event was the September 16, 2008 Ribbon Cutting to officially open the Centre and the Garden of Hope at the Forster Street location. When Doug and Donna French cut the ribbon and Donna released a box of butterflies symbolizing hope for abused children & youth, Margo knew she was volunteering for the right organization.⠀ ⠀ In her own words, Margo looks back over her 13 years of giving and states, “Being a volunteer for the Centre has enriched my life and I could see that my help and support was greatly needed”. After many years of volunteering and realizing the need for financial support, Margo decided to name the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara as a designate for Planned Giving. ⠀ ⠀ Margo says “it is a privilege to work with the staff and volunteers at the Centre, as we share one goal – helping kids who have been abused” “if you are looking for a place to volunteer, you won’t find a more rewarding place than the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre” and we at the Centre, will not find a more dedicated volunteer. The time and energy Margo puts forward for our Centre is not for personal gain or recognition, but to help our community meet the needs of children & youth who have experienced abuse. ...

It is with heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of Marlene DeRose. Marlene played a tremendous role in the founding of the Centre and continued her amazing work on behalf of Niagara children and families throughout the years. ⠀ ⠀ Marlene was instrumental in putting together the first Board of Directors and acted early on as chair of the fundraising committee which secured funds required to purchase the building from which we operate. Marlene's contributions through the years remained significant and varied as she served in a number of capacities including President, Past President, Senior Advisor, and chair of the programming committee as recently as 2016.⠀ ⠀ Marlene was a dynamic force who laid much of the groundwork for our current successes and accomplished it all as a passionate, genuine, team player. As she stated in her 2010 Annual Report Message from the Chair, "We are successful because we work together, we care for each other and we believe passionately in the vision of “helping victims become children again”. Marlene's dedication to volunteerism and commitment to helping Niagara children and families impacted by abuse will not be forgotten.⠀ ⠀ Marlene will be missed by all who knew her, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends. ...
